Although many people arrive by car, getting to either Tea Gardens or Hawks Nest is surprisingly easy if you don’t have your own transport. Both towns are well serviced on a daily basis by an excellent public transport service.
So if you don’t have a car, don’t worry! You will be amazed how easy it is to get here and how many travel options are available, including:
Once here, getting around is also easy. If you arrive without your own transport, you will find that most things in and around Tea Gardens (and Hawks Nest) are within walking distance (assuming you like walking and are without injury). Some venues run courtesy buses if you want a night out. You will need to call the venues to confirm what times the courtesy buses run. There is also a local hire car service available. This is an affordable option with Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest being small townships.
Hawks Nest and Tea Gardens are also accessible from Nelson Bay with ferry services running several times a day (weather permitting). Many people arrive from the Bay with their push bikes and spend the day exploring on two wheels. All ferry services from Nelson Bay arrive at Tea Gardens (the Hawks Nest wharf is not operating).
From Tea Gardens you can walk to Hawks Nest beach. This is a 20 to 30 minute walk through the Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest shopping precincts (so you will have ample opportunity to buy a cold drink or stop for a coffee and something to eat). With ferry services running until late in the afternoon, you will have all day to enjoy the area.
